Thank you for your interest in becoming Scrappy the Eagle! This commitment will require you to go to Athletics events throughout the year and make appearances at on-campus events (University Day, Homecoming, etc.) and events throughout the Denton and surrounding
communities.
To be considered to be Scrappy, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
- You must be 5ft 9in or taller to audition
- Due to the physical demands of the mascot role, candidates must possess a high level of stamina, strength, and agility. The position involves extended periods of movement, including running, jumping, dancing, and performing in high-heat conditions while
wearing a heavy costume. Applicants should be capable of performing in these conditions safely and effectively for the duration of events.
- Be a current UNT student or be accepted to UNT for the 2025-2026 school year
- Be in good academic standing and disciplinary standing with UNT
- Have a minimum cumulative UNT GPA of 2.25 or higher
- Have health insurance or the ability to take out a health insurance policy through UNT
- Be able to commit to about 2-4 hours per week, includes some nights and weekends to attend appearances requests for various events on and off-campus, attend UNT football and basketball games with the rest of the spirit squads (e.g., cheerleaders, dancers,
and band), and attend mascot practice and meetings.
